ABOUT CABO VERDE
The Cape Verde archipelago was uninhabited until the 15th century, when Italian and Portuguese explorers discovered and colonised the islands, thus establishing the very first European settlement in the tropics.
The archipelago, formed by ten islands approximately 40–50 million years ago during the Eocene era, has an interesting and agitated history, from an important place in the slave trade to a central commercial center during the 19th century, due to its mid-atlantic position, an ideal location for re-supplying ships.
After its independence from Portugal, led by Amilcar Cabral, in 1975, Cape Vert, with its Constitution approved in 1980, enjoys a stable democracy.
